Coach Hayden Daly

Hayden Daly
Boys Varsity Track Head Coach

Hayden Daly has been the CHS boys track & field coach for the last eight years, winning five Class championships and 30athletes placed at the Class L State Meet. Prior to CHS, Coach Daly taught PE and coached boys soccer and track & field at the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School. Coach Daly’s first coaching experience was at Interlakes High School where he was head coach for the varsity track& field team for four years.

Coach Daly started competing in Track & Field during his junior year in high school and continued in college where he trained year round for four years in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. Coach Daly set college records in five different events, all middle distances and was elected captain of all three sports in his senior year. Coach Daly still competes in road races, has run the Boston Marathon, and has also competed in a triathlon.

Coach Daly’s coaching philosophy: My philosophy of a coaching has many parts; the athlete, the parents of the athlete, practices and how they are organized, and many other details.  Education comes before sports. I know that athletics does not last forever, and I will have high expectations of my student-athletes in this area. I will not have a player perform for me on the field who does not understand that part of team commitment carries over to the classroom. I have a great deal of experience in athletics, and I know what it takes to win, but the lessons that we take from the athletic field are far more important, in the long run, than the outcomes themselves. Dedication to one's teammates and respecting oneself and others has proven to me to be the key to success, but success does not always necessarily arrive in the form of a win. Some of the valuable lessons that I have learned from athletic competition have also come from defeat and learning how to comeback from adversity.

I will have an open door policy with my athletes. My door will always be open to talk to an athlete about anything. Good times and bad times need to be talked about more with our youth. I will try to involve parents and family members as much as possible. I feel that track and field allows for involvement because of the sport. Playing time is not an issue and each athlete will be competing as long as they are healthy. From my experience, parents can play a very positive role.

My program will be organized and structured allowing for optimal efficiency. I will search for individual strengths and utilize these strengths to help the athletes succeed as both an individual and as a team member. I have gained so much from athletics, and I want to giveback to others the same opportunities and joys that sports and competition have given to me. I want to provide the leadership in an environment where my athletes will have fun and grow as athletes, and most importantly, as people.
