Frequently Asked Questions​​ about the Google Username Change (July, 2016)

Q. Why are we changing your login?

A. We are in the process of phasing out so that our logins are easier to type and to spell, especially for students.

Q. What email should I give out to others?​

Although you will still receive mail sent to through the 2016-2017 school year, you will want to be sure that your contacts are emailing you at going forward.

Q. When is this changing?

A. The change will occur on July 8 around 10 AM. It is possible that there may be a delay or a brief email outage at that time. We will use SchoolMessenger to communicate with you if there is any email outage. Please be sure that your SchoolMessenger contact information ​ is up to date!​

Q. How are we reaching out to you?

A. We posted this FAQ in WAVE, we emailed everyone several times since before the school year ended, and during the week of July 5-8, we are sending out messages via SchoolMessenger. We want to be sure that everyone receives this important information.

Q. Are we changing your password?​​

A. No. We will not require any password changes at this time. However, we will be requiring many users to change their passwords at the start of the 2016-2017 school year, possibly in September.

Q. What systems are affected by the changes?​​

A. Your username will change in Google Apps for Education. This includes the district email system (Gmail). Your Windows logon, PowerSchool, and all other systems will ​not​ be affected.

Q. Will my email address be changing?

A. Please be sure all of your contacts have your current email address of where username includes your entire last name. All old email addresses (short usernames and email addresses that end in will continue to work as ​aliases through the 2016-2017 school year.

Q. Will I lose anything as a result of the Google username change?​​

A. No, you will not lose email or docs.

Q. Is there anything I need to do?​​

If you check your district email on an iPhone or iPad, you may need to make some settings changes. Scroll down for a tutorial and screenshots.

If you are using a district-issued Chromebook this summer, we will be contacting you with further information. Please be sure your contact information on SchoolMessenger​ is up to date!

A. Yes! We will send out more guidance on student usernames before school begins.
